Tyler Shough, newly signed rookie quarterback for the New Orleans Saints, is expected to have plenty of responsibility on his shoulders as NFL analysts predict the young player to be the starting signal caller for the team pretty soon. Shough is being looked up to as starting quarterback mainly because of veteran Derek Carr’s sudden retirement from the team.

However, sports pundits are still skeptical of what Shough brings to the table, mainly because of his inexperience in the league. According to Bleacher Report’s Brent Sobleski, the New Orleans Saints may try to bring in Atlanta Falcons starting quarterback Kirk Cousins to their roster to start instead of Shough.
“As shaky as this setup appears, a veteran addition might be ideal for this roster. The Saints still feature running back Alvin Kamara, wide receivers Chris Olave and Brandin Cooks, tight end Juwan Johnson, center Erik McCoy, defensive end Cameron Jordan, linebacker Demario Davis, and safety Tyrann Mathieu. Everyone mentioned, except for Olave, will be 28 or older at the start of the season.” Brent Sobleski wrote about Tyler Shough and the New Orleans Saints.

Kirk Cousins has been with the Atlanta Falcons since the 2024 NFL season. However, his brief time with the Falcons has been full of injuries and poor performances. As a result, it is pretty unlikely that the Falcons might play Cousins in the upcoming season and might be even eager to trade him away to a hungry New Orleans Saints. If Cousins does manage to be signed by the Saints, Tyler Shough will have to put on his starting quarterback shoes only much later on in his career.
Tyler Shough Gets Whopping Rookie Deal Full Of Guaranteed Money
Only a few days did Tyler Shough sign his rookie contract with the New Orleans Saints. Shough and his agent have been negotiating with the team ever since he was bagged in the second round of the draft, for a bigger contract and more guaranteed money. During this time of negotiations, Shough has not appeared for training with the team and has been called out for his behavior by a number of analysts and football fans.

However, the negotiations have definitely paid off since the New Orleans Saints signed Tyler Shough for an impressive $10.795 million deal for a period of four years. The contract is fully guaranteed and is one of those rare deals in the current NFL as more and more team owners are trying to give out less guaranteed money and instead keep the players in tow with promises of incentives.
