As the 2023 NFL offseason gets heated up, there are a ton of big-time rumors floating around. Among those rumors are the Green Bay Packers trading Aaron Rodgers, Lamar Jackson landing somewhere other than the Baltimore Ravens, and many more. Now, it appears that the Los Angeles Rams are considering a big blockbuster trade involving quarterback Matthew Stafford.
Stafford led the Rams to a Super Bowl win just two short years ago. It’s hard to believe that the franchise would already be ready to move on and rebuild.
That being said, the reports coming out are that the Rams have called teams about possibly trading Stafford. That indicates a desire on the franchise’s side to move on. Stafford will likely be a trade candidate that teams consider around the NFL if they miss out on an elite veteran quarterback or a top-notch rookie.
All of that being said, let’s dive in and take a deeper look at this shocking news.
What The Rumor Of The Rams Being Open To Trading Matthew Stafford Means
The rumor was reported by NFL reporter Michael Lombardi on the Pat McAfee show. Granted, the report could end up being untrue or overhyped, but it’s something to keep a close eye on.

Should the Rams actually move on from Stafford, it seems very possible that they would bring back Baker Mayfield. There have been reports that Los Angeles was very happy with what they saw from Mayfield in limited time after Stafford went down with an injury.
There are a few potential suitors around the league that would make sense in a Stafford trade. Among those teams are the New York Jets if they miss out on Aaron Rodgers, the Las Vegas Raiders, the Houston Texans, and possibly even a team like the San Francisco 49ers.

During the 2022 season with the Rams, Stafford ended up playing in just nine games before going down with injury. He had a rough year, completing 68 percent of his pass attempts for 2,087 yards, 10 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. Even before he went down with injury, Los Angeles was headed for a rough year.
Back in 2021, Stafford came into L.A. with a bang. He racked up 4,886 yards, 41 touchdowns, and 17 interceptions while completing 67.2 percent of his passes. The turnover numbers were high, but he was highly effective overall.
Expect to hear a lot more rumors about the Rams in the coming days and weeks. Stafford being on the block is a shock, but Jalen Ramsey is also a star that could be traded. Los Angeles has a lot of decisions to make and it will be interesting to see how they look following the 2023 NFL Draft.
