The Philadelphia Eagles won’t hire Jim Leonhard
Former Wisconsin Badgers interim coach Jim Leonhard was a candidate to replace Jonathan Gannon as the Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator. This week, the highly sought-after defensive coordinator interviewed for the Eagles’ vacant position. A new report revealed the outcome.
According to Jeremy Fowler with ESPN, Leonhard, and the Eagles brass made a mutual decision that Leonhard would not take continue the interview process for the defensive coordinator position. Leonhard was already planning to take a year off from coaching as he needed to undergo a medical procedure on his hip. However, the Eagles defensive coordinator job availability proved too good not to at least entertain an interview for the former college walk-on turned NFL pro.

The Eagles have serval other defensive coordinator candidates in mind, including former Denver Broncos head coach Vance Joseph. Leonhard will likely still be offered a premium job next offseason–after he heals from his surgery.
