The New York Giants lost to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday 28-6 at home. This is the second straight season that the Giants lost in a big way at home to start the season. In Week 1 of the 2023 season, the Giants lost to the Dallas Cowboys 40-0.
A lot of Giants fans are clamoring for head coach Brian Daboll to bench Daniel Jones for Drew Lock after another poor performance on Sunday. However, Daboll came out and said that Jones will not be benched in Week 2 against the Washington Commanders.
New York Giants Head Coach Brian Daboll Is Already On the Hot Seat
With Daboll in his third season as head coach of the Giants, he appears to already be on the hot seat. Fans are turning on him because he has not benched Daniel Jones for Drew Lock. Some fans think he is stubborn and some think he has no power to bench him because they think Joe Schoen and John Mara are overriding him.
In his first season with the team, he finished with a 9-7-1 record and made the playoffs. Last season, they finished 6-11. This season, they are 0-1 and it feels like they could be 0-17 with Daniel Jones as the starting quarterback. Doubling down on Daniel Jones is going to get him and Joe Schoen fired. Jones is responsible for getting other coaches fired already.
Nick Faria of yardbarker.com thinks that the Giants’ head coach is already on the hot seat. Faria said:
“For a second straight season opener the Giants have looked unprepared due to poor coaching from the very top. It’s that lack of coaching prowess that Daboll has shown – at least over the last few years.
Even then, though, it’s not just Daboll that needs to be blamed.
The underlying issue for the Giants at this point is that they don’t have a roster that is good enough to compete with. New York has a single strong receiver in Malik Nabers, their offensive line remains a mess, and their defense is devoid of any competency in the secondary.
That all falls at the feet of Schoen.
As the Giants move forward for the rest of the year, it’s clear that New York has their general manager and head coach on the hot seat. And if things don’t turn things around, it could get very ugly for everyone involved. “
Is it possible that the New York Giants could clean house again after the 2024 season if it goes bad for them? Only time will tell.
NFL Offensive Coach Tells Matt Lombardo The Giants Could Start All Over Once Again
Matt Lombardo of substack.com talked to an NFL offensive coach about the New York Giants coaching situation. That coach told Lombardo:
“I could see the Giants cleaning house again. Especially if Saquon goes off in Philly this year.”
The first time that the Giants face the Eagles this season is on Sunday, October 20 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. If Saquon Barkley goes off and if Daniel Jones is already benched by then for his poor play, Giants’ owner John Mara’s blood may boil and may cause him to start all over. New York Giants fans wouldn’t mind because that would mean it would be a new head coach, new general manager, and a new quarterback for the 2025 season and beyond.
