The New York Giants lost to the Minnesota Vikings 28-6 at home on Sunday afternoon. This was one of the winnable games on the Giant’s schedule for the 2024 season. In Week 2, they will face the Washington Commanders.
New York has had Washington’s number as of late, but that could all end on Sunday. Giants general manager Joe Schoen is in his third season with the team along with head coach Brian Daboll. Schoen’s decisions appear to be wearing thin with a lot of people in the New York market.
Yardbarker.com Writer Michael Gallagher Thinks That New York Giants General Manager Joe Schoen Could Be Fired Mid-Season
Schoen has not made many good decisions with players it would seem. He gave quarterback Daniel Jones a four-year $160 million extension after the 2022 season. Ever since then, Jones has thrown more pick-sixs with three than actual touchdown passes with two.
The Giants offense sputtered once again on Sunday and Jones seems to be a major problem. As for Saquon Barkley, he had a big weekend for the Philadelphia Eagles and they chose not to re-sign him. Xavier McKinney also had a big weekend for the Green Bay Packers and Julian Love had a good weekend for the Seattle Seahawks.
Michael Gallagher of yardbarker.com said about the Giants third-year general manager:
“Schoen and Giants owner John Mara were trending during the Philadelphia Eagles’ season-opening win over the Green Bay Packers and not for a good reason. Former Giants running back Saquon Barkley had a monster game, rushing for 109 yards and scoring three total touchdowns, as video clips from the offseason edition of “Hard Knocks” circulated on social media of Mara saying he’d have a tough time sleeping if Barkley signed with the Eagles.
The Pro Bowl running back only signed with New York’s division rival because Schoen refused to pay Barkley what he was asking, stating the team isn’t paying quarterback Daniel Jones as much as they are to hand the ball off to a $12M running back.
The Giants put up just 240 yards of total offense in their Week 1 loss to Minnesota, and Barkley’s replacement, Devin Singletary, rushed for just 37 yards. At this rate, Schoen could be out of a job by midseason.”
Barkley was the Giants’ best offensive player last season. Don’t forget that Schoen didn’t re-sign him because he didn’t want a $40 million quarterback handing off to a $12 million running back. He also doubled down on Jones being the guy.
Fans Are Already Over Joe Schoen
Some Giants fans think that Joe Schoen is no better with roster decisions than the former New York Giants general manager Dave Gettleman. This is what some fans had to say about him:

Joe Schoen #thefacts
– 3 first round busts in 2 years
– Gave $40M a year to the worst QB in the NFL
– Has no career if Brandon Beane didn’t trade up for Josh Allen
– Acted like he’s not responsible for this mess on Hard KnocksNot my GM

The performance of Daniel Jones may get Joe Schoen fired. If the Giants are 0-6 in their Week 7 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles and if Saquon Barkley has a big game, that could be the final straw for Schoen as the Giants general manager. John Mara is known for making impulsive decisions.
