There are major injuries on the Seattle defense. Two starters on defense will miss multiple weeks. One in the secondary and one on the defensive line. Missing veteran starters at multiple levels of the defense is a recipe for disaster.
Alton Robinson (Knee)
Defensive end Alton Robinson suffered a knee injury in Seattle’s final pre-season game. He sprained his knee landing awkwardly and did not play in Seattle’s home opener. On Monday he was placed on injured reserve. Head coach Pete Carroll said that the injury could turn into a long-term issue. Robinson is one of Seattle’s best pass rushers. His absence really hurts Seattle’s defense.
Jamal Adams (Knee, Quad)
Additionally, Pro Bowl safety, Jamal Adams suffered a Knee injury in the second quarter of Monday night’s game. The injury happened as Adams attempted to sack his former teammate Russell Wilson. Adams limped off the field and according to reports, he could be heard yelling in frustration as trainers worked on him. The training staff carted him off the field. That is not a good sign at all.
When asked about Adams’ injury after the game, Pete Caroll did not give a direct diagnosis. However, he did describe the injury as “serious.” He called it a knee injury and revealed that there was damage to Adams’ quad as well. Carroll also said that Adams’ knee injury is not a typical one.
On Tuesday, Pete Carroll revealed that Jamal Adams will need surgery on his knee. Carroll still did not provide a diagnosis or a timetable for return. However, with the revelation that Adams will undergo surgery, it’s safe to assume that Seattle will be without Adams for multiple weeks.
Outlook Going Forward
These major Injuries to starters on Seattle’s defense will be hugely detrimental to their performance on defense. The Broncos were able to move the ball on the Seattle defense easily. Seattle’s saving grace was their goal-line defense. if not for three huge stops inside their own five-yard line, the score of that game would have been very different.
Seattle is going to struggle defensively. the loss of these two veteran starters will force more young players onto the field. Pete Carroll began his career coaching on the defensive side of the ball, he will need to draw on that experience and do some serious scheming to whip this young defense into shape.
