Dan Quinn is staying in Dallas
Dan Quinn had several interviews for a head coaching job this season. According to multiple reports, Quinn interviewed with the Indianapolis Colts, Arizona Cardinals, and Denver Broncos. Reports came out Thursday that the former head coach of the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI will remain as the Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator in 2023.
Quinn has held the position since 2021. The Cowboys’ defense has been stellar under Quinn, and it was assumed he could easily land another head coaching gig. But Quinn isn’t ready to take that role yet.
According to Ed Werder with ESPN, Quinn gave interested NFL teams why he was uninterested in continuing to pursue an NFL head coaching gig this offseason.:
“Unfinished business here in Dallas, Quinn told [Weder]. “My complete focus is helping the team play championship ball in 2023.”

That’ll be a tall task for the Cowboys, who fell short in the Divisional Round Sunday night. The defense wasn’t the reason why the Cowboys lost to the San Francisco 49ers. The offense needed to do its job. Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott didn’t do enough once Tony Pollard was injured. Dan Quinn won’t have control over the Cowboys’ offense next season.
But he will have a talented roster that will see edge-rushing phenom Micah Parsons return for his third season. We’ll see if the defense can carry the Cowboys next season.
