Chicago Bears wide receiver Keenan Allen was acquired in a trade from the Los Angeles Chargers this offseason. Allen is 32 years old and will be entering the final year of his contract. Earlier this week, his teammate D.J. Moore received a four-year contract extension worth $110 million.
With Moore receiving a contract extension, Allen could receive a new deal from the Bears soon. Quarterback Caleb Williams and wide receiver Rome Odunze will be on rookie deals. The receiving core of Keenan Allen, Rome Odunze, and D.J. Moore could be one of the best in the NFL in 2024.
Keenan Allen has spent his entire NFL career with the Los Angeles Chargers. He has dealt with some injuries in the past so it remains to be seen if Allen will stay healthy with the Bears. Last season with Los Angeles, he caught 108 passes for 1,243 yards receiving, and seven touchdowns, along with averaging 11.5 yards per catch. Allen was also targeted 150 times.
Bleacher Report Writer Brent Sobelski Thinks That Chicago Bears Wide Receiver Keenan Allen Could Be the Next Wide Receiver On the Team Who Gets a Contract Extension
Bleacher Report writer Brent Sobelski thinks that the Bears could sign Keenan Allen to a long-term deal moving forward. Sobelski said:
“The Chicago Bears finally understand the assignment. Everything they do from this point forward is to build around quarterback Caleb Williams.
The process began before the draft, though. On March 14, the Bears acquired veteran target Keenan Allen from the Los Angeles Chargers for a fourth-round draft pick. Allen has five 100-catch, 1,110-yard seasons under his belt, including last year.
The 32-year-old Allen is the offense’s old head, who happens to be entering the final year of his contract.”
One of the biggest storylines with the Chicago Bears this season could also be the offensive line because it has struggled in the past. Brent Sobelski also added:
“Stability can be a huge indicator of a young quarterback’s success. The Bears have Moore, rookie wide receiver Rome Odunze, running back D’Andre Swift and tight end Cole Kmet signed through at least the 2027 season.
Allen on more than a one-year deal can be the veteran presence to lead the way and provide Williams with a security blanket in 2024 and beyond.”
For the first time in quite some time, the Bears have a lot of offensive talent on the roster. A lot of the games could very well be decided at the line of scrimmage. Chicago has not won the NFC North title since the 2018 season when they went 13-3.
Rookie quarterback Caleb Williams is going to be under the spotlight in his rookie season. If Keenan Allen was not re-signed, he would no doubt have a market but the Chicago Bears would love to give him a new contract.
