The Baltimore Ravens are ensuring stability at the helm, securing head coach John Harbaugh with a three-year contract extension through the 2028 season. The announcement, made Friday, keeps one of the NFL’s longest-tenured coaches in Baltimore for what will be his 21st season with the franchise.
John Harbaugh has been a model of consistency since taking over in 2008, leading the Ravens to a 172-104 record and delivering a Super Bowl XLVII victory in 2013. His leadership has made Baltimore a perennial contender, with seven different offensive and defensive coordinators coming and going during his tenure—many of whom have ascended to NFL head coaching positions.

John Harbaugh’s Success in Baltimore
Regardless of their success, Ravens fans have become frustrated with recent playoff exits. Just like last season, the 2024 season followed its pattern as a 12-5 regular season, an AFC North title, and an explosive offense led by Lamar Jackson MVP-level play being made short by a narrow 27-25 divisional round loss to the Buffalo Bills. John Harbaugh still has to prove he can lead Baltimore back to the Super Bowl.
He still has the Ravens’ faith. Baltimore had solidified its core with re-signings of left tackle Ronnie Stanley and the addition of former All-Pro wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins this offseason. The Ravens have a championship-caliber roster intact, along with Jackson under center, and will be back making a deep playoff run to the Ravens once again.

The organization’s confidence in Harbaugh’s steadiness bodes well for continuity, and it hopes he will provide the ways and whys they’ll need to get back where they want to be on the league’s biggest stage. Harbaugh’s career in Baltimore is already cemented; the second-longest-tenured coach in the NFL behind only Pittsburgh’s Mike Tomlin. He is now trying to add another Lombardi Trophy to his list.
