Jaire Alexander may now suit up for the Baltimore Ravens, but he’s keeping a familiar look. The former Packers star will continue wearing jersey No. 23, the same number he wore in Green Bay. This decision comes shortly after Alexander signed a one-year deal with Baltimore, marking the start of his next chapter in one of the NFL’s most formidable defenses.
The Ravens grabbed attention last week by inking two-time Pro Bowler Jaire Alexander to a one-year deal worth up to $6 million. Despite drawing interest from Atlanta and Miami, Alexander chose Baltimore, rejoining quarterback Lamar Jackson, his close friend and former Louisville teammate. His arrival adds even more firepower to a secondary that was already among the league’s best.

Alexander wore No. 23 throughout his seven-year stint with the Packers, appearing in 85 games and earning two Pro Bowl selections while cementing his status as one of the NFL’s premier defensive backs. Now with the Ravens—an organization known for its defensive legacy—he’ll continue to wear the same number. Baltimore confirmed his jersey choice in a team update this week.
A new beginning for Jaire Alexander and the Ravens

Holding on to No. 23 didn’t come without complications. Linebacker Trenton Simpson wore the number last season but has now switched to No. 32. Though the details behind the swap weren’t disclosed, the Ravens confirmed the updated jersey assignments in an official release.

In a series of jersey number changes to accommodate Jaire Alexander’s arrival, three other Ravens players have made switches. Safety Beau Brade changes from No. 28 to No. 25, cornerback Chidobe Awuzie goes from No. 25 to No. 3, and cornerback Marquise Robinson shifts from No. 32 to No. 28.

Alexander’s connection to the number 23 goes back to his strong track record in the NFL, where he has established himself as one of the premier cornerbacks in the league. Although he wore number 10 during his college career at Louisville, where he was teammates with Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, it is number 23 that has become his identity as a pro. Sticking with it could bring a sense of consistency as he begins this new journey with Baltimore.
With Alexander now in the fold and his jersey number settled, the Ravens are turning their attention to building cohesion within their retooled secondary. His veteran presence is expected to elevate younger talents like Nate Wiggins as the team prepares for another push toward the postseason.
