“Rarely Demonstrates Accountability”: New York Giants Insider Calls Out HC Brian Daboll For a Running a Soft Operation

With the New York Giants having a 2-7 record for the third straight season in the NFL, there is no question that head coach Brian Daboll is on the hot seat as the final several weeks of the 2025 NFL season approaches. Daboll is in his fourth season with the team.

General manager Joe Schoen is also on the hot seat as well. However, there is a chance that Schoen could keep his job after the 2025 NFL season and Daboll could potentially be fired. A lot of people are blaming the poor coaching for the 2-7 record during the 2025 season despite having more talent on the roster as well.

Dan Duggan of the Athletic covers the Giants and he wrote about the lack of leadership inside the locker room this season. Duggan believes the issues start with the head coach. He said about Daboll’s poor leadership this season,

“The examples were glaring last season, when Daboll refused to bench 2023 first-round pick Deonte Banks despite multiple effort lapses. Then, after a 30-7 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 12 that players described as “soft” and “ass,” Daboll spent the next day’s film session highlighting plays with good effort.

The Giants haven’t reached those depths yet this season, but cracks are showing after starting 2-7 for the third straight year. They’ve been out-scored 72-44 in their past two losses, and their next four games are against opponents with a combined 22-10-1 record. The darker days that are likely ahead figure to shine a brighter spotlight on the leadership void within the team.

Daboll avoids singling anyone out publicly, so he stuck to his script of blaming the “collective” for the team’s struggles on Monday. But as each week passes with no changes to the coaching staff or the lineup, it’s not a surprise there are no changes to the results.

“Nothing is good enough. Offense, defense, kicking game — we all can be better,” Daboll said. “We’re doing everything we can do to try to improve it, and I’m confident we will.””

The issues with the Giants along with Daboll is defensive coordinator Shane Bowen. It is malpractice that he has not been fired yet. This could lead to the players inside the locker room quitting on the head coach at some point. There is no doubt that the defensive players do not trust Bowen and his words at this point. They have probably mentally checked out.

Over the next four games, the Giants will face the Chicago Bears, the Green Bay Packers, the Detroit Lions, and the New England Patriots before the bye week. If New York loses all four of those games, there could be a very good chance that Daboll can get fired before the end of the 2025 NFL season. Daboll probably knows he will be done as Giants head coach soon and not even rookie sensation quarterback Jaxson Dart can save his job at this point also.
