We know there’s still a whole season of college football to play. Yet here we are, ranking the 2023 draft class by position. The NFL draft has become a sporting event or competition of it’s own. We can’t get enough, so with that said it’s never too early to start talking about, comparing, and ranking the players. We are gonna do this by position and we’re starting with the quarterback.
1- C.J. Stroud- Ohio state

C.J. Stroud is the best all around quarterback in college football this season. He has the physical stature of a prototypical NFL QB at 6’3 and 220 pounds. He also has the arm to put the ball anywhere. Stroud also has timing, anticipation, and you h on his passes to put the ball right where it’s needed so the receiver can get the most after the catch. Another quality I saw is he got better as the season went. His completion percentage got better from 74.7% in the last nine games with a 36-3 td to interception ratio. His final four games his completion percentage was 79.8% with a 19-1 touchdown to interception ratio. Then in the Rose Bowl his completion percentage was 80.4% for 537 yards and a 6-1 touchdown to interception ratio. If his progression continues he will definitely be the first quarterback off the board.
2- Bryce Young- Alabama

Bryce young may be the most well known and have the highest upside of any of the quarterbacks. Young’s calmness, swagger, and quick processing makes him dangerous. It was so close between him and Stroud that it could be either way by seasons end, but for now he is second. His ability to process the field and make a quick decision will translate great in the NFL. At 5’11 and 197 pounds he is smaller but lately smaller quarterbacks have showed they can be elite as well. He should get better at running through progressions and mechanics so it’ll be interesting where last year’s Heisman ends up in the draft.
3- Tanner McKee- Stanford

Tanner McKee- is the most interesting of the 2023 draft class. The 6’6 240 pound quarterback was recruited high in the same class as Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields. McKee had many top schools to choose from but decided on Stanford while also holding off on playing for his first two years to travel on mission trips. Last year was technically his first year playing college ball but he looked great with far less weapons than the guys above him on this list. His standout skills besides his sized is ball placement and arm strength. He can fit the ball into almost any window he wants or drop a perfect placed ball 60 yards down field. It’ll be fun to see where he is in his game and in the draft after this season.
4- Jaren Hall- BYU

Alot of people will disagree with me here but like I said this isn’t where they are now, this is predicting the future of where they will finish. The fourth spot really was hard to decide between Hall, Grayson McCall, and Will Levis. Any of these quarterbacks have an argument to be in the the fourth and fifth ranking here. I went with Hall because of his ability to put the ball anywhere he wants coming from a baseball baçkground. Some of the throws he made last season was amazing so BYU will be a fun team to watch this season.
5- Grayson McCall- Coastal Carolina

Another tough choice here but Grayson McCall reminds me too much of Patrick Mahomes in college to put him past fifth rank. I still need to see more poise from Levi’s and Van Dyke. Richardson doesn’t have enough tape for me to put him in the top five yet though he has the most impressive physical traits.
So there you have what I see being the top five quarterbacks in the 2023 draft class. I’m sure this list will change some once the season gets under way but for now I believe these players will shine the brightest.
