Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua found himself in hot water during Sunday’s matchup against the Seattle Seahawks. Late in the second quarter, with the Seahawks holding a slim 6-3 lead, Puka Nacua was ejected after throwing a punch at Seattle linebacker Tyrel Dodson following an interception by cornerback Tariq Woolen. The altercation just fanned the flames of a heated divisional rivalry and left the Rams’ offense short-handed for the remainder of the game.

Puka Nacua Frustrated With The Situation
Woolen intercepted a pass from Matthew Stafford which led to that incident. That confrontation began when Dodson blocked Nacua from making a tackle after the interception. Nacua, frustrated by the turnover, punched Dodson’s helmet and was ejected immediatley and drew the first unnecessary roughness penalty of the game.
Puka Nacua, however, stayed on the sideline for a moment before jogging off to the locker room to boos from the Seattle crowd, even though he was supposed to leave immediatley. The Seahawks were able to capitalize on the penalty and drive 60 yards down the field for a touchdown before halftime. Rookie Jaxon Smith-Njigba caught a long Geno Smith pass to extend Seattle’s lead to 13-3.

The ejection comes at a unique time for Puka Nacua as he has already spent much of the season sidelined. The receiver who made waves after a breakout rookie year has been playing with an injury — out for five games — with a PCL injury this season. In Week 8, he was back on the field and seemed to have returned to some of his form, as he performed well against the Vikings the week prior. Today it ended early, as he went for one catch for 11 yards in Seattle.
This moment of frustration could have cost the Rams the game and very well likeyly should have. Fortunately for the Rams managed to hold off the Seahawks in a thrilling overtime battle. In a tight division head coach Sean McVay must come up with some ways of dealing with these costly lapse’s in judgment. Puka Nacua needs to channel his competitive edge in a way that doesn’t become such a liability.
