The San Francisco 49ers are 6-8 this season in the NFL. They will head on the road and face the Miami Dolphins (6-8) on Sunday afternoon. San Francisco has an outside shot to win the division this season, but the odds are they will most likely miss the postseason.
One of the biggest questions for them this offseason will be whether or not they should re-sign quarterback Brock Purdy. The 49ers almost won a Super Bowl last season with him, but they came up short.
Colin Cowherd Suggests That the San Francisco 49ers Sign Sam Darnold Instead of Brock Purdy
On Wednesday on The Herd with Colin Cowherd, Cowherd suggested that the 49ers sign Sam Darnold this offseason instead of giving a long-term deal to Brock Purdy. Cowherd said:
“People have always confused the story with the truth… I don’t even think it’s tough.”
Sam Darnold was the backup quarterback on the 49ers last season. This season, he is lighting it up with the Minnesota Vikings. Darnold has completed 67.6% of his passes for 3,530 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions this season. Purdy this season has completed 65.% of his passes for 3,174 yards, 15 touchdowns, and nine interceptions.

Ita almost like Brock is playing like he was the last pick in the draft or something. Super team is depleted and are more than likely missing then playoffs. What a shame. I hoped for them and the Bengals to fail this year btw 😂

Don’t you think that if Darnold is way better than purdy that the 49ers would have kept him another year for maybe 10 million? Why did they let him go?? They got to see him a whole year, why did they let him walk??

Undoubtedly, the 49ers will have a decision to make at quarterback at the end of the season. San Francisco should not make the mistake of overpaying Purdy. They are better off signing Darnold to a cheaper contract.
