On, Tuesday Sept. 27, 2022 Jerry Jones took to the airwaves on 105.3 the fan to do what he does best, fan the flames of controversy and grab headlines to create unnecessary drama. Jerry is heating up the QB Controversy in Dallas, but is there actually a real chance that Cooper Rush can take Dak’s job in Dallas?
Rush Hour in New York
Two weeks ago, the national media proclaimed the Cowboys “dead,” and fans of American’s team were more concerned about how high their 2023 draft pick would be instead of chasing a division title. But since then, the Cowboys have beaten the defending AFC Champion Bengals and the 2-0 Giants. Dallas has looked impressive in both games, especially the defensive and offensive line, running back Tony Pollard and most importantly former backup, Cooper Rush.
The surprising and unexpected win streak has fans, and the media pushing very different narrative’s today, then they were 2 weeks ago: Is the Dallas D an elite defense? Has the coaching staff FINALLY realized that Pollard is the Cowboys best running back? And, of course, the NFL media’s favorite two words: QUARTERBACK CONTROVERSY.
Jerry Ain’t Scared
After a week of Jerry dropping hints that Cooper has a chance to replace Dak at QB, Monday night not only encouraged the Rush narrative, but actually made it more likely to happen than anyone could have possibly imagined two weeks ago.
Jerry took to 105.3 the fan on Tuesday morning to fan the flames once again:
Jerry Jones said on 105.3 The Fan that Cooper Rush has “the makeup of a top quarterback, adding, “let me say this he’s certainly playing as well as anybody could’ve expected.”

It is time to admit reality. Cooper Rush can take Dak’s job, and if he continues to win and play as well as he has in his first 3 starts, he WILL be the starter. Jerry is not afraid to go with the hot hand. He did it with Romo in 2012, and he also did it with the Hall of Fame QB Troy Aikman in 1991.
Cooper Rush has now orchestrated a game winning 4th quarter drive in his first three starts . He is the first quarterback to do this since, Kurt Warner.
Cooper Rush is the first undrafted QB to win each of his first 3 NFL starts and throw for 750+ yards over those starts since @kurt13warner in 1999 with the Rams.
Warner went on to win NFL MVP and Super Bowl MVP that season.@dallascowboys | #MondayNightFootball https://t.co/deiHrzRmcm

The tea leaves are there for those willing to accept this as a possible reality. But, will Jerry have the guts to do what he has done in the past?
See it to Believe it
Jerry isn’t the only one who feels that Cooper has shown he is capable of leading American’s team, even former players like Lesean McCoy took notice.
Jerry Jones was right … I think it’s a new qb in DALLAS👀👀👀👀

Despite the media taking Jerry’s bait, In all likelihood Dak will be the team’s starter by week 5, but ironically Cooper’s success will put a lot of pressure on Dak to return (possibly earlier than it would take for him to fully heal) and if he underperforms and the team starts losing it will have some fans questioning whether the now 29 year old QB is worth the 70 million he is owed through the next two seasons.
This will certainly be good for headlines and ratings, which is most likely why Jerry keeps making this an issue. It’s almost as if he spoke this into existence the night of Dak’s injury. And now heading into a boring Sunday game against the Washington C word’s, Jerry and the Dallas Cowboys have now made Cooper Rush a reason to tune into the game. If Cooper plays well, and Dallas wins again, Jerry is going to have to think long and hard about when he wants to bring Dak back. Hopefully he wont struggle as much with this decision as he does with modern technology.

My worry is that the playcalling will go back to being vanilla with Dak. Kellen needs to keep the creative juices flowing and not leave it to Dak.
