The San Francisco 49ers finished with a 6-11 record during the 2024 NFL season. San Francisco is looking to bounce back in the 2025 NFL season.

They will not have to worry about quarterback Brock Purdy only have one-year remaining on his contract because he signed a five-year $265 million extension with the 49ers last Friday. This was a very interesting contract that San Francisco signed Purdy too. There is no doubt that this is a very risky contract extension for San Francisco. Despite all of this, where does the 49ers quarterback rank across league entering the 2025 NFL season?
PFF Ranks San Francisco 49ers Brock Purdy As the 11th Best Quarterback In the NFL Entering the 2025 NFL Season

Pro Football Focus writer John Kosko created his quarterbacks tiers list entering the 2025 NFL season. He has Purdy as the 11th best quarterback in the NFL entering the 2025 season. Purdy is in Tier 3A which are quarterbacks who are solid starters who have flashed high-end play. Kosko said,
“Purdy may be a product of the system and surrounding talent, but he’s still led one of the NFL’s most efficient offenses over the past three seasons. His play dipped slightly in 2024 as the 49ers battled injuries across the offensive line and receiving corps, yet he still posted the league’s top success rate over the past two years, alongside a seventh-best 90.0 PFF grade.”
There are some people who were very critical of San Francisco giving Purdy that contract extension. If the 49ers miss the playoffs again in 2025 and if Purdy does not play well again, there will be major questions headed in the direction of general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan.
Purdy completed 65.9% of his passes for 3,864 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. San Francisco had injuries last season. It will be interesting to see if they will be banged up once again this season or if they will stay healthy. The other two quarterbacks who were ranked in the same tier as Purdy was Jared Goff of the Detroit Lions and Geno Smith of the Seattle Seahawks.
San Francisco’s quarterback being ranked 11th could be too high in these pro football focus rankings. He should be in the 3B tier instead, where they are solid starters, but they need more help. Purdy needs help around him in order to succeed.
