As the Purdue Boilermakers have struggled on the field, one glaring issue has continue to rear its head against the defense.
The Boilermakers are currently 1-2 to start the season with big losses to #18 Notre Dame and Oregon State already. During both losses, the defense was the biggest issue for the Boilermakers as each team sliced through them.
Purdue has allowed 104-points so far through two games as the Boilermakers did not allow a point in the opener against Indiana State. Meanwhile, the Boilermakers offense has combined for just 28-points during both of the losses.
The offense has also had issues as well, with Purdue turning the ball over five times this season including two lost fumbles. The Boilermakers have even begun to get creative with the turnovers they have accrued, with a terrible lost fumble from running back Devin Mockobee against Oregon State.
Teams that haven’t turned the ball over yet: UGA, Indiana, Louisville
Teams that haven’t gotten a turnover yet: Purdue and Troy.

On the opposite side of the football, the Purdue Boilermakers have yet to secure a forced turnover this season. Purdue currently has a turnover ratio of -5 as the Boilermakers continue to struggle with holding onto the ball offensively.
Very sad weekend of football for all of the Purdue / Browns fans that exist! pic.twitter.com/g9Y5W8cjND

Currently, the Boilermakers share company with the Troy Trojans are Division I football programs without a forced turnover this season.
Ironically, Purdue is scheduled to play Indiana to end the season, who are one of the final remaining teams without a turnover on offense.
Can the Purdue Boilermakers Football Team Right the Ship Moving Forward?
While Purdue had plenty of hope to kickoff the 2024 season, it does not seem like it will be a pretty season for the Boilermakers.
I don’t know when Purdue’s next win will come. Northwestern? Things are really bleak right now, and that’s a dangerous spot to be in. Send over your questions and thoughts and I’ll discuss them on the podcast tomorrow!

Purdue is already 1-2 without entering conference play yet, and still must play Nebraska, Illinois, Oregon, Ohio State, Penn State, and Indiana this season. The Boilermakers have other games as well, but have quite a daunting list of opponents within the upcoming schedule.
The Purdue Boilermakers have games against Wisconsin, Michigan State, and Northwestern this season that may round out their wins. Wisconsin can certainly surprise people and showcase a solid team moving forward, but the Boilermakers will need to secure a win in that clash.
For the Boilermakers moving forward, trying to find some sort of success on the defensive side of the ball is going to be key to winning games.
