Let’s see who the public is betting for NFL Week Two. But before we do that, let’s look back at how the public favorites (as detailed in last week’s article) faired in Week One.
NFL Week One Betting Recap
(We’ll grade on the opening lines and last Wednesday’s line at the time of publication)
Denver Broncos (Opened: -4, Last Wednesday: -6.5)
The Broncos did not cover either line; And they lost outright. Final Score: Seahawks 17, Broncos 16
Baltimore Ravens (Opened: -4.5, Last Wednesday: -7)
The Ravens covered both lines and had very little trouble doing so. Final Score: Ravens 24, Jets 6
Raiders/Chargers (Opened: Over 51.5, Last Wednesday: Over 52.5)
The two teams combined for only 43 points, failing to cover either line. Final Score: Chargers 24, Raiders 19
Broncos/Seahawks (Opened: Over 41.5, Last Wednesday: Over44.5)
As stated above in the ATS section, points were very hard to come by in this one, as the two teams only combined for 33 points.
The conventional wisdom among most betting experts and handicappers is to fade the public. And last week, that rang true.
Week 1 Public Betting Favorites of 80 percent or better:
Opening Line: 1-3, Wednesday Line: 1-3
Week Two Public Betting Favorites
This week we’re seeing only one team receiving more than 80 percent of the public betting action ATS: The Cincinnati Bengals
Due to Dak Prescott’s injury, the Bengals, who opened as a +2 underdog are now a -7.5 favorite. The Bengals are receiving 86 percent of the bets on this game.
As for Over/Under, there are 3 totals receiving over 80 percent of the betting action: Commanders/Lions Over (receiving 87 percent of the bets), Panthers/Giants Over (receiving 86 percent of the bets) and Viking/Eagles Over (receiving 83 percent of the bets).
The Commanders/Lions opened at 44.5 and is currently at 48.5. The Panthers/Giants opened at 42.5 and is currently at 43.5. And the Vikings/Eagles opened at 47.5 and is currently at 50.5.
Let’s see if the public is on the right side this weekend.
