Preview: Green Bay Packers (0-0) vs Minnesota Vikings (0-0)
Packers lead series 64-56-3
The Green Bay Packers travel to Minneapolis to face the Minnesota Vikings. This game marks the 124th time the fierce division rivals have faced each other over 61 years. The Packers are 16-10-1 against the Vikings with Aaron Rodgers as their quarterback. Rodgers has been very successful against the Vikings; he has a 110.4 passer rating with a 68.3% completion rate, 56 touchdowns on seven interceptions, and 6,803 yards. However, the Pack have been 7-7 at Minneapolis with Rodgers at the helm (although in one of those losses he was injured at the very beginning). Rodgers and the Packers hope to break the tie today.
What to watch for
The Packers’ Wide Receivers

All eyes are on the brand new batch of wide receivers deploying today. Allen Lazard was stepped on in practice and he will likely miss the season opener. This will open the door for the rookies Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs. Watson was injured during training camp and preseason, while Doubs was one of the league’s stand out players. Sammy Watkins will also line up wide along side Packers veteran Randall Cobb in the slot. This is the biggest shake up at the position in the Rodgers era, so it will be interesting to see how the aging vet adapts to the change in these later seasons.
The Vikings’ New Coaching Staff

Kevin O’Connell joins the Minnesota Vikings in 2022 as their new head coach. The Vikings had a massive shake up in their coaching staff, replacing 20 out of 26 coaching positions. Coach O’Connell was the offensive coordinator for the Super Bowl LVI champion Los Angeles Rams. O’Connell was also Kirk Cousins former quarterbacks coach in 2017 for the then Washington Redskins. O’Connell helped to oversee the Vikings’ switch to a 3-4 defense this off season along side new defensive coordinator Ed Donatell. Kevin O’Connell brought his fellow Super Bowl champion and tight ends coach Wes Phillips in as offensive coordinator for the Vikings.
Aaron Rodgers’ New Haircut
Rodgers seems to be channeling his inner Bond villain. Watch out Vikings.
