Week 3 of the college football season has come to a close. While it did not have quite as many upsets such as Notre Dame losing to Northern Illinois at home in Week 2, there were still some notable results.
So, what were the biggest standout games? What will the Top 25 poll look like in Week 4? Here are some of the biggest takeaways and predictions.
Georgia Survives a Scare, Two Ranked Teams Fall
The most notable result from yesterday’s games comes from an upset that did not end up happening. However, #1 Georgia came about as close as it gets to losing without actually doing so, narrowly beating unranked Kentucky by a final score of 13-12. Georgia was a 22-point favorite to win that game.
There were also two games between ranked teams this week. On Friday night, #14 Kansas State took care of business against #20 Arizona, cruising to a 31-7 win. Saturday’s game between #6 Missouri and #24 Boston College was a little closer. Missouri won by a final score of 27-21.
Unranked Teams to Watch
Unlike last week, no unranked teams came up with a big win over a ranked team. Therefore, there are no obvious teams to place in the Top 25. Arizona and Boston College ended up losing, so this could open up two spots in the Top 25.
Boise State and Syracuse were two of the four unranked teams to receive the most votes. However, both of these teams had byes. Then, other unranked teams with votes such as Kansas, Washington, Vanderbilt, South Carolina, Wisconsin, and TCU ended up losing outright.
So, where does that leave us? Texas A&M, Memphis, and UNLV arguably had the biggest wins, beating Florida, Florida State, and Kansas on the road respectively. Illinois, the unranked team with the most votes last week, cruised to a home victory over Central Michigan.
