Week 2 of the college football season was certainly a chaotic one. It was headlined by Notre Dame getting stunned at home by Northern Illinois. However, the Fighting Irish were not the only team to suffer a big loss.
Thanks to several ranked teams losing yesterday, Week 3 of the AP Top 25 poll should look very different. What will happen? Read below to see what you should expect.
6 Ranked Teams Lose in Week 2
As mentioned above, several ranked teams suffered losses yesterday. The most notable was #5 Notre Dame, who got stunned on their home turf. The Fighting Irish lost to Northern Illinois by a final score of 16-14.
There were two games between ranked teams yesterday. The most notable one was the #3 Texas Longhorns cruising to a road win over the #10 Michigan Wolverines. Later that night, the #14 Tennessee Volunteers put on a show against the #24 NC State Wolfpack, winning by a final score of 51-10.
Then, there were three other ranked teams who had surprising losses to unranked teams. This includes the #19 Kansas Jayhawks falling to Illinois, the #21 Iowa Hawkeyes falling to their state rival Iowa State, and the #23 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets losing a close road battle against Syracuse.
Notable Unranked Teams
With the number of ranked teams suffering losses yesterday, this leaves room for a few unranked teams to climb into the rankings. To fully understand which teams have the best chance to jump in, we need to take a close look at which unranked teams got the most votes last week. You can take a closer look at that in this link.
Iowa State was one of the first five teams out of the rankings last week. Other notable teams include Texas A&M, Boston College, Memphis, and Nebraska.
There are a few teams who did not get many votes last week that may be worth keeping an eye on. Two of these teams are Illinois and Syracuse, who both secured big wins against ranked teams yesterday.
