Training Camp is just around the corner. The Saints have many questions at many positions for the upcoming season. Not all of these will play a big role in camp but they will all play a big role in how the Saint’s season goes. These are ones that I see as the top three for the Saints this season.
Wide Receiver
Michael Thomas is locked in he has produced big numbers for the Saints since his arrival in 2016. He is ready to go after he didn’t play in the 2021 season. Chris Olave is a rookie coming out of Ohio State. Olave could be another weapon for Winston this season. Jarvis Landry was picked up from free agency after spending last season with the Browns where he had 570 receiving yards. Marquez Callaway is definitely a weapon and could be one who stays a Saint this season. Deonte Harty great weapon for the Saints the last 4 seasons and had a big one in 2021. Harty needs to be one who should make the roster for the season. Tre’Quan Smith in his 4 years as a Saint has had 1,486 yards with 17 touchdowns. Smith also stepped up in the absence of Thomas last season. Rashid Shaheed led Weber State in receiving this past season he would make a great asset even if it is on the practice squad. Dai’Jean Dixon Coming off another 1,000-yard receiving season in college for the Colones. These guys should be a lock for the Saints in 2022
Easop Winston Jr. played in three games as a Saint last season and only had one catch. Kawaan Baker most likely won’t be a final roster person. Baker only appeared in two games last year and had no catches. Kevin White since entering the league in 2015 has played in three teams maybe he will find his home with the Saints. Kirk Merritt won’t make the Saints roster after only playing in three games over his career.
Safety
Tyrann Mathieu is one of the top safety in the country this year and will help the Saint’s defense win games. Marcus Maye only played in six games for the Jets but had 46 tackles this past season. Smoke Monday coming into his rookie season after playing for Auburn. In his final year as a Tiger had 63 tackles and one pick-six. Daniel Sorensen playing for the Chiefs for the past eight years he is coming to the Saints with lots of experience. Sorensen misses some plays but he would be a great asset to the Saint’s defense. J.T. Gray playing for the Saints last year had 22 tackles. Gray is a great backup option for this season. Justin Evans coming off of some leg injuries during his time as a Buccaneer. Evans has 124 tackles and four interceptions in his career. Chauncey Gardner-Johnson coming off a good season last year for the Saints. Gardner-Johnson had 46 tackles and three interceptions.
Offensive Line
The Guards are up first. Josh Andrews coming into his seventh year in the league. Andrews played last year with Atlanta coming off a hand injury he is ready to play with the Saints in 2022. Lewis Kidd is a rookie from Montana State. Forrest Lamp is ready to start his second year as a Saint after being drafted by the Chargers in 2017. Andrus Peat is now a veteran on the Saint’s offensive line. Peat is ready to show the Saints fans his talent after only playing in six games last season. Cesar Ruiz, played in all 17 games last season after playing for the Wolverines in college. Ruiz is in his second year and is ready to continue to produce on the line. Derek Schweiger started all 13 games in his senior year for the Cardinals.
Up next are the Tackles. Sage Doxtater his rookie year is ready to begin after having a great career for New Mexico State. Ethan Greenidge joined the Saints in 2019 as a strong, physical lineman. Jerald Hawkins entering his sixth year in the league. Hawkins will play his first as a Saint. James Hurst took first-team reps in minicamp after playing all 17 games last season. Trevor Penning coming out of Northern Iowa he is ready to play his rookie year. Ryan Ramczyk the veteran is coming off an injury season in 2021. Calvin Throckmorton played in 17 games and started in 14 last season. Khalique Washington allowed the fewest sacks in college at Southern Mississippi. Landon Young, he can play at both tackle positions and was an anchor on the Wildcat’s offense in college.
Erik McCoy the Saints center for four years is ready to make a comeback after only playing in 12 games last season.
