The Mississippi State Bulldogs lost a commitment during their win this weekend in a rather unusually awkward situation.
Three-star cornerback and 2026 commitment Iverson McCoy was caught on video writing out his decommitment message on social media. McCoy had been a Mississippi State Bulldogs commitment for some time, but decided to end his commitment during the game. Unfortunately for McCoy, the recruit did not realize that Bulldogs fans were sitting around him at the time.
One fan noticed that McCoy had hopped on his phone and began recording the recruit in a rather unusual act. While video taping McCoy, the fan noticed that the recruit was typing out a message on his social media account. When the video is fully zoomed in, it can be seen that the recruit is typing out the following message that he eventually posted.
“I am truly grateful for the love and support from the Mississippi staff, however I will be decommiting from the program.”
It’s still HAIL STATE🐶
— Iverson McCoy (@IversonMcCoy1) November 2, 2024
Seconds after making the post, McCoy deleted his tweet and posted “It’s still HAIL STATE” with a dog emoji minutes after. McCoy was very quickly identified as the recruit in the video initially posted onto social media, which prompted the recruit to take down his initial message. As far as things currently stand, McCoy is still committed to the Mississippi State Bulldogs, but very well could change his stance.
The question that fans have been dying to know is whether or not McCoy would have followed through completely with his decommitment if the recruit was not video taped doing so.
Mississippi State Bulldogs Hold Onto Recruit, Win Despite Rocky Ride
Things have not been easy for the Mississippi State Bulldogs this season both on and off the field, but there have been glimmers of hope.
Perhaps the brightest glimmer of hope has been the backup quarterback Michael Van Buren Jr, who has been trusted with the starting role. Since Van Buren Jr took over, the quarterback has thrown for 1101-yards, nine touchdowns, and four interceptions for the Bulldogs. The quarterback has been a game changer for the team, bringing a significantly more competitive offense to the table.
The Bulldogs have three particularly difficult games left this season with Tennessee, Missouri, and Ole Miss left on the schedule. With no hopes of bowl eligibility, the Bulldogs have nothing left to lose and likely will begin to pull out all the stops they can to win games. Both Missouri and Ole Miss are particularly interesting games for the Mississippi State Bulldogs moving forward.
Between the rivalry with Ole Miss and the fact that Missouri seemingly plays down to their opponents level, the Bulldogs could secure a big win to end the season. However, it also seems very likely that the win over UMass was the final for the Bulldogs during the 2024 season.
