BREAKING: Notable Pittsburgh Steelers WR Carted Off During Practice

The Pittsburgh Steelers are looking to improve their offense in 2024. They are attempting to do this by making a massive change at the quarterback position along with acquiring skill players at other positions. Unfortunately, one notable wide receiver was carted off during today’s practice. Read below to find out who it was and what happened.

Earlier this morning, it was revealed that Steelers rookie WR Roman Wilson was carted off during practice. Several reporters on the scene mentioned that Wilson got hit hard during a jet sweep play. As a result, he did not get up on his own.

At the time of writing, there is no update on what the exact injury is for Wilson. However, leaving practice on a cart is never a good sign.

National Champion Wide Receiver

Michigan receiver Roman Wilson and acting head coach/offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore celebrate Wilson’s touchdown catch against Ohio State during the first half at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2023.

The Pittsburgh Steelers drafted Wilson in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Wilson came from the University of Michigan. It was there he won a national championship with the Wolverines before moving on to the NFL.

Last season, he had 789 receiving yards with the Wolverines. Perhaps even more impressive, he had 12 touchdown receptions. That was more than what he had in his first three years combined at Michigan.

It was clear his senior season was what propelled him in the NFL Draft. Winning a national championship also certainly helped him gain attention from NFL scouts. As a result, Wilson was looked at as a promising wide receiver for the 2024 season. Now, depending on the severity of this injury, we may have to wait a little longer to see what he is made of.

So, what will happen now for the Pittsburgh Steelers? As mentioned above, they will have to wait and see what the severity of the injury is. However, if this ends up being a long-term injury, the Steelers could potentially lose their #2 wide receiver for the start of the season.

Right now, the Steelers have a quarterback competition between two veteran quarterbacks. These quarterbacks are Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, who both could use all the help they can get.

The only wide receiver clearly above Wilson on the roster is George Pickens. If Wilson does not come back soon, Pickens could face more pressure to perform in the 2024 season. He has nearly 2,000 receiving yards and nine touchdown receptions in two seasons with the Steelers.
