The final preseason game for the Pittsburgh Steelers will be against the Lions this Sunday. With a few big position battles this week against the Lions. Starters will be determined for week one against the Bengals. There is a lot of buzz about Mason Rudolph having trade interest. Could this to be their front row seat to determine if they make a push to get him?

Two Position Battles
The quarterbacks position is said to be a three man battle. As the preseason goes on and I hear coach Mike Tomlin speak, it sounds like its only a two man battle. Not in the way you think. Mitch Trubisky has played pretty well in preseason with limited reps and has not done anything to lose the job. The real competition is for QB2 between Kenny Pickett and Mason Rudolph. Kenny Pickett has leaped passed Mason as Kenny has been with first and second team during practice and last weeks preseason game. Meanwhile Mason has been running with the third team. In my opinion the depth chart is set, It will be Trubisky’s job to lose, if he stumbles in the regular season in will come Kenny Pickett.
The left guard position is a big unknown. It is apparent that Kendrick Green is not the answer and his future is up in the air. Kevin Dotson since being drafted, has played really well. At this point it is his job, the only reason we’re seeing green this much is Dotson’s injuries. Dotson has had a hard time staying healthy but when he is in you can see he has the skill set to be a really good left guard. I expect him to be ready to go week one against the Bengals and to see him as the starter.
Mason to the Lions?
As usual the media pushes click bait material to get views. Even after the Steelers released Chris Oladokun there are countless Mason try out articles out there. The Steelers may shock me but I don’t think they will be trading Mason. If the Steelers are ready to be competitive like they say trading Mason Rudolph is not the answer. It may be what’s best for Mason in his journey to become a starter, but as a team his depth is very important. Rudolph may not be the guy or a superstar but he is a solid quarterback who can come in if needed and win you a game or two. Mason is staying in the Steel City until his contract is up and more than likely will walk in that scenario.
