The Pittsburgh Steelers are going to be an intriguing team to watch during the NFL offseason. While all of their focus is on competing for a championship, which they do appear to be a serious contender, there are a lot of decisions that will need to be made after the 2024 season.
Obviously, the quarterback situation is the biggest decision. The Steelers have both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields on one-year deals. Pittsburgh will have to figure out who they want to keep or if they want to pursue an external option.
A new name has come up as a potential fit for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Pittsburgh Steelers Emerging As Potential Fit for Aaron Rodgers in 2025
Aaron Rodgers appears likely to be on his way out with the New York Jets. The Jets are in shambles right now and are widely expected to move on from Rodgers in the offseason.
Should that end up happening, the Pittsburgh Steelers are emerging as a team that could be a potential fit for the future Hall of Fame quarterback.
Wendell Ferreira of AtoZ Sports has named the Steelers as one of the top landing spots for Rodgers.
“This is the most likely option outside of the Jets. Russell Wilson and Justin Fields are both free agents in 2025, so the Steelers will really need to look at their options. Maybe Wilson wants to stay, but he would certainly be much more expensive than he is now. Rodgers probably wanted more control, and that’s why he went to the Jets after years with the Packers. But it didn’t work, so going to a franchise where he would be the quarterback, and nothing beyond that, with a respected head coach in Mike Tomlin would make sense.”
Obviously, the 2024 season has not gone according to plan for Rodgers. He has been criticized and blamed for the team’s struggles, but his numbers actually have not been horrible.
So far this season in 11 games played, Rodgers has completed 63.4 percent of his pass attempts for 2,442 yards, 17 touchdowns, and seven interceptions.
Granted, they aren’t the typic numbers that Rodgers produces, but they’re still not bad.
All of that being said, the Pittsburgh Steelers certainly could consider giving Rodgers a one or two-year deal. If he bounces back in his second year removed from the torn Achilles and feels more comfortable outside of New York, he could be the difference that leads the franchise to another Super Bowl.
This is definitely something to watch in the offseason.
