The Pittsburgh Steelers lost 24-27 to the Indianapolis Colts, surrendering their first defeat of the season. According to PFF, the Colts won because the Steelers struggled to protect Justin Fields, allowing 24 pressures, 13 hurries, five hits, and six sacks (PFF doesn’t recognize half sacks). Also, their talented interior lineman suffered a devastating injury.
The Pittsburgh Steelers right guard suffered a season-ending injury
James Daniels exited their first drive with an apparent ankle injury. He limped off the field and went into the medical tent, and the medical staff carted him off the field. Tests determined that Daniels suffered a season-ending Achilles tear. He is the third starting offensive lineman to have suffered a season-ending injury.
Pittsburgh, concerned with their interior offensive linemen depth, addressed the position on Tuesday.
The Pittsburgh Steelers poached an interior offensive lineman off an NFC East team’s practice squad
According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the Steelers plan to sign Max Scharping off the Washington Commanders practice squad to their active roster. Scharping, who has 33 career starts, spent training camp with the Philadelphia Eagles but didn’t make their 53-man roster. He then signed with the Commander’s practice squad shortly after. He provides depth to their depleted interior offensive line.

Pittsburgh is decimated by injuries and Scharping has starter’s experience.

NFL rules require players signed from a practice squad to an active roster to receive a minimum of three weekly paychecks, even if the team releases that particular player before spending three weeks with the team.
