The Pittsburgh Steelers are a team to keep a close eye on during the upcoming NFL offseason. Mike Tomlin and company came up short once again in the NFL playoffs. There is obviously more work to do.
With that in mind, the Steelers could have a very aggressive approach during the offseason.
One area that Pittsburgh could use improvement is at the wide receiver position. George Pickens had a good year, but they need to add another weapon for whoever ends up being their starting quarterback in 2025.
All of that being said, the Pittsburgh Steelers could be eyeing a massive move during free agency this offseason.
Pittsburgh Steelers Eyeing Massive Move in 2025 NFL Free Agency
Andrew Fillipponi of 937 The Fan in Pittsburgh believes that the Steelers could be considering a run at Tee Higgins.
“Rumor: Steelers LOVE Tee Higgins. And would be willing to give him MORE than they were willing to pay Brandon Aiyuk in a trade last summer. Could mean as much as $30 million a year. Stay tuned.”
Higgins is expected to be a highly coveted player when free agency opens up. There are quite a few teams around the NFL who could use wide receiver help and Higgins is expected to be the top target for those teams in free agency.
At just 26 years old, Higgins has the ability to be a long-term threat for whoever signs him. He could end up simply re-signing with the Cincinnati Bengals, but if that doesn’t work out, Pittsburgh could choose to make an aggressive run at him.
Being able to sign Higgins and also steal him away from the AFC North division rival Bengals would be a sweet feeling for the Steelers.
During the 2024 NFL season with Cincinnati, Higgins ended up playing in 12 games. He still racked up 73 catches for 911 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Obviously, those numbers would look awfully good in the Pittsburgh Steelers’ offense. If they kept Pickens, the Steelers would have a dynamic duo at wide receiver.
All of that being said, the chances of the Steelers landing Higgins are not high. They could make some noise and pull off a surprise by signing him, but fans should not expect this to end up happening.
