The Pittsburgh Steelers could be on the verge of finally solving the franchise’s longstanding quarterback problem.
Russell Wilson fading down the stretch in 2024, and struggling mightily in the Steelers’ playoff loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Wild Card Weekend, shone a bright light on Pittsburgh’s need to add competent quarterback play this offseason.
If the Steelers are going to meaningfully compete in the AFC North, and more than that, in head coach Mike Tomlin‘s 19th season in Pittsburgh, it might take a bold move.
Is a Matthew Stafford Blockbuster Trade the Answer for the Pittsburgh Steelers?

The Steelers are close.
If Pittsburgh doesn’t decide to trade dynamic wide receiver George Pickens, there are some nice weapons on offense that could power the Steelers in 2025 and beyond. This offseason, as Matthew Stafford’s situation with the Rams continues to devolve, the Steelers may wind up as an ideal destination for the $160 million quarterback with a Super Bowl ring on his finger.
According to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, the Steelers are among the teams showing the most interest in Stafford, along with the New York Giants, Cleveland Browns, and Las Vegas Raiders.

It’s easy to see what the Steelers would eye the 37-year-old Stafford, fresh off a 3,762-yard 2024 campaign with 20 touchdowns to eight interceptions.
Stafford remains at the top of his game and was stellar for the Rams in their two playoff games, very nearly leading Los Angeles back in the fourth quarter of the Rams’ NFC Divisional loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Even at this stage of his career, Stafford is capable of maximizing the weapons the Steelers have on offense and would be a significant upgrade over the likes of Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, who were behind center in Pittsburgh last season.
