The Pittsburgh Steelers are putting a lot of faith in Kenny Pickett. After being drafted in the first round last season, Pickett made some noise at the end of the season. The Steelers ended up with a winning record after a rough start to the season under Mitchell Trubisky. There are high expectations for year two. Kenny Pickett had a bold statement about his second season that should excite Steelers fans.
Pittsburgh Steelers: Kenny Pickett Makes Bold Statement
In an interview with the team’s official website, Pickett talked about how different this year is from last year.
“There are so many things I’m going to go through here in this offseason in order for me to take that big jump in Year Two, which I’m expecting myself to do,” said Pickett. “There were so many new things coming in this year that you can’t even put into this one interview that you’re going through as a rookie quarterback in the NFL. I just got so much more comfortable from the first day I walked in here to the last day of the season. It’s like night and day.”
Now that all of the rookie circuses have passed, he is ready to move into his second season feeling more comfortable. He added this which should excite Steelers fans.
“I felt like I’ve been here for two or three years versus one season, how much time I’ve been around everybody. So having that groundwork, that base, the work in the offseason. I’m really excited.”
He feels like a third or fourth-year player right now. Often it takes three or four years for a player to really come into their own so the fact that Pickett is already feeling that is a good sign for the team.
Can The Steelers Compete In The AFC?
The AFC is a tough conference this year. In the division alone the Cincinnati Bengals are the team to beat. Then they have the Chiefs, Chargers, Jets, Bills, Dolphins, and Jaguars to compete with. The good news is that Pittsburgh has one advantage over all of them. Mike Tomlin and his coaching staff have proven they can take a less talented team and get the most out of them. I for one will not be betting against the Pittsburgh Steelers to have a winning record this season.
How the Steelers do this season rests with Kenny Pickett. Fans should be excited that Pickett is feeling confident.
