The Pittsburgh Steelers offensive line has been battling injuries throughout training camp and the preseason. Troy Fautanu suffered a minor MCL sprain in their first preseason game. He missed the last two weeks of practice, including their second and third preseason game. However, he returned to practice this week and should be ready for Week 1.
Their projected starting center, Nate Herbig, suffered a shoulder injury on August 11 and was expected to miss the start of the season. However, that changed when the Steelers announced that he tore his rotator cuff, and they placed him on season-ending injured reserve on August 18. Herbig entered training camp as the favorite to start at center, receiving the majority of first-team reps. His injury paves the way for Zach Frazier.
The Pittsburgh Steelers’ talented interior offensive lineman suffered a pec injury
Isaac Seumalo exited Wednesday’s practice with an apparent pectoral injury. The Steelers feared that Seumalo suffered a torn pectoral at the time of the injury. A fully torn pectoral, which requires him to undergo surgery, requires a four-to-six-month recovery time, plus an additional eight to twelve weeks of rehab, and possibly miss the entire 2024 season. They underwent tests to determine the severity of the injury.
Isaac Seumalo avoided a devastating injury
According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, Seumalo avoided a torn pec but suffered a strained pectoral. Despite avoiding a tear, he faces a four-to-six-week recovery time. The Steelers expect him to miss at least the first month. There is a possibility the Steelers place him on injured reserve.

Who fills in at left guard?
Spencer Anderson and Mason McCormick will compete for the starting job. Anderson, a seventh-round pick from last year’s draft, is the backup left guard in Ourlads’ depth chart and is the favorite to start Week 1, according to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. McCormick, their fourth-round pick from this year’s draft, is the backup right guard.
Spencer Anderson and rookie Mason McCormick will compete to see who replaces Seumalo in the short term. Anderson, though, will begin there, per team sources.
