The Pittsburgh Steelers acquired quarterback Justin Fields in a trade with the Chicago Bears this offseason. Pittsburgh also signed quarterback Russell Wilson as a free agent in the offseason after he was released by the Denver Broncos. The Steelers also traded away quarterback Kenny Pickett to the Philadelphia Eagles in the offseason.
With Fields being in the Steel City, he will get a fresh start after things not going so well with the Chicago Bears. A season ago with the Bears in 13 games played, he completed 61.4% of his passes for 2,562 yards, 16 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. Justin Fields also rushed for 657 yards on 124 carries and four touchdowns, along with averaging 5.3 yards per carry.
For now, Fields is projected to be the backup quarterback to Russell Wilson this season for Pittsburgh. However, a lot of things could change between now and during the regular season for the Steelers.
Pro Football Network’s Jason Katz Makes Bold Fantasy Football Prediction About Pittsburgh Steelers Quarterback Justin Fields
There probably won’t be anyone who will draft Fields in fantasy football leagues this season. They will probably have to pick him up off the waiver wire if he were to start eventually over Russell Wilson.
Pro Football Network’s Jason Katz made a bold prediction for the fourth-year quarterback from the Ohio State Buckeyes. Katz mentioned that Fields will start 10+ games this season for Pittsburgh and will also average elite QB1 numbers. Jason Katz said:
“I don’t buy the reports that the Steelers’ starting QB competition is a fait accompli. Russell Wilson is going to start Week 1. He’s just not going to finish the season.
At some point, Wilson will get benched for Justin Fields. Now, Fields isn’t exactly a great NFL quarterback. But he brings a different element of explosiveness that Wilson cannot offer.
Once Fields takes over, we know what he can do. Run, and run A lot. Fields averaged 20.5 fantasy points per game in 2022 and 18.4 PPG last season.
Since Week 7 of the 2022 season, Fields has recorded 13 games of 20+ fantasy points, including two games of 40+ and another over 30. Just get Fields in there and he will be an every-week QB1 in fantasy.”
Fields would no doubt bring energy to this offense. It would not be a surprise if Steelers teammates liked him more than Russell Wilson already. Pittsburgh’s number one receiving option in this offense is George Pickens, but there is not much else after that in the receiving game.
Justin Fields will start some games over Russell Wilson this season, but it won’t be 10 or more games. It will be fewer than that. Even if he did start that many games, Fields will not be an elite quarterback in putting up fantasy numbers week in and week out.
