The Pittsburgh Steelers currently have just two quarterbacks on their roster: Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson, and the chances that they go into the 2025 NFL season with either of them as their starter is slim. That being said, Pittsburgh put itself in this position by allowing both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields to depart in free agency.
Wilson recently signed with the New York Giants while Fields was signed by the New York Jets to replace four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers.
And speaking of Rodgers, the Steelers are still waiting on him to make a decision for the 2025 season, and whether or not he wants to be a part of their team.
The Pittsburgh Steelers Are Waiting on Aaron Rodgers

When news that the Jets planned to release Rodgers broke, there were multiple teams that expressed potential interest in the future Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback. But as the weeks have gone by, that list has narrowed down to just one team: Pittsburgh.
After Wilson signed with the Giants and the Minnesota Vikings informed Rodgers they had no plans on pursuing him, the Steelers were the only team left that wanted him.
Yet, despite the mutual interest between them, Rodgers has yet to sign with Pittsburgh. The two sides reportedly met at the team facility for up to six hours in what was a productive meeting.
Today, Sunday, head coach Mike Tomlin told reporters that there is no deadline for Rodgers. Per Brooke Pryor of ESPN, Tomlin said, “He and I obviously have known of each other for some time, and so it was really good to spend some time together, man, and get to know each other more intimately, but it is free agency. It is a process. I have nothing of any more significance to add other than that.”
And while this does not mean that Pittsburgh is out on Rodgers, it does mean they are waiting on him, and fans are not happy about it.
Pittsburgh Steelers Fans Are Humiliated by Aaron Rodgers

Rodgers, of course, was the quarterback of the Green Bay Packers that defeated Pittsburgh in Super Bowl XLV. And if that was not enough reason for fans to feel negatively towards him, his holding their favorite team hostage as he contemplates his future is:
Tomlin pretty much confirmed the Steelers are being left in the dark with Aaron Rodgers. This is embarrassing. #Steelers #NFL

I’m so sick of Aaron Rodgers. Go solve the world’s problems. And stay away from the Steelers.

This Aaron Rodgers flirtation has been on life support for weeks. Pull the plug and say goodbye. RIP 🪦

While the Steelers have made it clear that they are willing to wait for Rodgers, it is also clear that the fans are growing restless.
It will be interesting to see how the situation plays out.
