With the deadline in 10 minutes of this article being written the Pittsburgh Steelers have made a lot of moves. Some moves are much more surprising than others, lets go over the ones I found surprising.
You can get a live feed update on all moves from every team in the NFL here.
Elijah Riley
The Pittsburgh Steelers just signed Riley this week. It is very surprising to see him cut this quick with Damontae Kazee being injured. Kazee is undergoing wrist surgery and will head to the IR and likely miss the first 5-6 weeks. The Steelers were rolling out a 3 safety look which was intriguing and I thought Riley would have been included. Its still soon so he could be snuck onto the practice squad for when the 53 man roster is set and Kazee going to IR. At first it was kind of a head scratcher move to bring in Riley but he came in at the right time with Kazee eventually going down against the Lions. Time will tell if he ends up back on the 53 man roster.
Hamilcar Rashed
Rashed is another guy who was brought in during preseason. All the news pointed to the Steelers liking what they saw from him and I thought he played pretty well. He is another guy to keep an eye on creeping onto the practice squad. However with the recent trade for Malik Reed it kind of makes sense given Derek Tuszka is still on the roster. Rashed appears to be the odd man out in the room but I would not fully count him out of making the team as a practice squad guy.
Tyler Vaughns
Vaughns has had a great preseason. He has been the most productive and clutch wide receiver in the late game moments. Vaughns was given the most reps in those situations over guys like Sims and Cody White and I really expected them to make it work keeping him. Again, another guy who could squeeze onto the practice squad and has a chance to make a comeback.
In my eyes after seeing the play of Boykin it was a tough decision. Vaughns, Sims and Boykin all made a great case to make the team. It will all depend on how the Steelers plan to use Gunner on where everyone else falls. Regardless I think Vaughns played great and deserves a roster spot regardless of where.
