Pittsburgh Steelers Coach Has Comical Take on Aaron Rodgers’ Fit

There’s a new man to handle the duties under center for the Pittsburgh Steelers, and it’s a future Pro Football Hall of Famer in Aaron Rodgers. The 41-year-old quarterback finally signed with the Steelers for a one-year, $13.65 million contract in the offseason, with both sides hoping that this marriage would lead to a Super Bowl title.

That remains to be seen, but Rodgers is already starting his work with his new team. Getting familiar with offensive coordinator Arthur Smith must be high on Rodgers’ to-do list in the minicamp and in the coming training camp.

Given the fact that Rodgers is a gunslinger arriving on a team that ran the ball a lot in 2024, there are some doubts about the QB’s fit with the Steelers. Smith had a hilarious reaction to that.

“We didn’t bring Aaron in here and sign DK for all that money to go run the wishbone,” Smith told reporters (h/t Mike DeFabo of The Athletic).

Past is past for the Steelers with Rodgers and wide receiver DK Metcalf now in the Pittsburgh fold. Having two such big additions to the team definitely means a notable change in approach for the Steelers, who would have likely gone with Mason Rudolph as the team’s Week 1 starter if Rodgers didn’t take his talents to Pittsburgh.

Aaron Rodgers should catch Brett Favre on all-time NFL list in 2025

One of the benefits of a long NFL career is the chance to move up on all-time lists and make records.

Rodgers, who is fifth all-time on the NFL’s career passing touchdowns list with 503 scoring throws, needs just six more to pass fellow former Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre. Tom Brady is the all-time leader with 649 passing touchdowns, the only one to ever throw for at least 600.

In 2024, his last season with the New York Jets, the 10-time Pro Bowler threw for 28 touchdowns against 11 interceptions to go along with 3,897 passing yards on a 63 percent completion rate.
