The Pittsburgh Steelers appear to be Aaron Rodgers’ last best option to be a starting quarterback in 2025, and he just might be the franchise’s best available player at the position, barring general manager Omar Khan and head coach Mike Tomlin falling in love with one of the second-tier quarterback prospects in this year’s draft.
However, as Rodgers continues to weigh his options, both in terms of whether to continue playing this fall and where to play, it sure sounds like Steelers owner Art Rooney II is beginning to get frustrated by the process.
“No. Didn’t envision it taking this long,” Rooney told reporters at the NFL Annual Meeting in West Palm Beach. “Not forever, but a little while longer.”
Rodgers is coming off a disappointing 2024 campaign with the New York Jets, where he passed for 3,897 yards with 28 touchdowns to 11 interceptions, but at one point was benched and failed to reach the postseason for the third consecutive season.

While Rooney acknowledges that the process has taken longer than he or the franchise might have expected, there is optimism within the building that Rodgers will be wearing a Steelers uniform come September.
“We keep hearing that he’s, I guess, headed in our direction, and so that seems to be all signs are positive so far,” Rooney said, via Brooke Pryor of ESPN.
Both of the Steelers’ quarterbacks from last season, Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, have signed elsewhere–with Wilson inking a one-year deal with the New York Giants and Fields signing with the New York Jets.
If the Steelers ar looking to sign a veteran, Rodgers might be the last best man standing for Pittsburgh.
