“It Makes Sense;” Pittsburgh Steelers See New Aaron Rodgers Conspiracy Theory Emerge as Team Waits for 2025 Decision

For weeks, the Pittsburgh Steelers have been the only NFL team linked to four-time MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Earlier this offseason, the future Pro Football Hall of Famer was informed of his release by the New York Jets and their new head coach and general manager. While Rodgers has not yet decided if he wants to play at all in the NFL in 2025, he did express his frustration with the Jets’ new leadership regime.

The fact that he was released, as well as his displeasure with an organization cutting ties with him without letting him go out on his terms, has led many to believe that, despite his decline in play in 2024, he will want to play again.

But he has not signed with Pittsburgh even though they have an offer on the table for him. Furthermore, they did not take a quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft until sixth round. It seems as if all the stars are aligning for him to take the Steelers quarterback job, but their offseason programs have begun without him being committed to the team.

New Conspiracy Theory Emerges as to Why Aaron Rodgers Has Not Signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers

During his last appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, Rodgers revealed that he is dealing with some things in his personal life that have made it impossible for him to make a decision on his NFL future. That being said, he is interested in Pittsburgh. He also understands if they feel like time has run out and they need to look in a different direction at quarterback.

But Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk has a different theory as to why Rodgers is taking so long to make a decision.

“This year, Rodgers has yet to sign with the Steelers,” Florio wrote. “If he does it before the schedule is released on May 14, the league will know it’s getting a marquee team and a marquee quarterback for a slew of standalone games. If he waits, maybe the schedule won’t have as many prime-time appearances from (checks depth chart) Mason Rudolph.

“At this point, it makes sense for Rodgers to wait until the schedule is locked and loaded.”

According to Florio, Rodgers could be waiting to sign with Pittsburgh so that the NFL is forced to finalize its 2025 schedule without considering him as part of the league. With Mason Rudolph penciled in as their starting quarterback, the Steelers likely will not play many primetime games.

If this were to happen, Rodgers would be able to sign with Pittsburgh and avoid playing so many games with later start times.

If this theory is true, it puts the NFL in a tough spot when considering opponents for one particular Steelers game: the one in Ireland.

Over the course of the offseason, the Green Bay Packers, Rodgers’ original team, were considered a strong candidate to play the Steelers in the NFL’s first game in Ireland. However, the league likely does not want the legend’s first game against his old team to be played on foreign soil. Instead, they would prefer to make it a primetime game that would draw millions and millions of viewers.

So, for now, the NFL and Steelers will have to wait, and it will be interesting to see how things unfold as a result of it.
