The Philadelphia Eagles are the reigning Super Bowl Champions after ending the Kansas City Chiefs‘ run of two consecutive titles. Of course, they were able to achieve the NFL’s highest honor through gritty play on both ends of field. Indeed, no defense played as well in the NFL Playoffs than Philadelphia’s, and defense, as the saying goes, wins championships.
That being said, it takes a highly-skilled offense to compliment a defense to elevate the team, as a whole, to Super Bowl contenders. And on of the Eagles’ most famous and unstoppable offensive plays over the last few years as been the “tush push.”
Using this play, Philadelphia quarterback Jalen Hurts amassed 14 rushing touchdowns in 2024 to go with the 18 that he threw. But for as long as the Eagles have used the play, opposing teams and fans have complained about it.
And now the fate of the tush push lies in the hands of the NFL’s competition committee, and it is not looking good for Philadelphia.
The Green Bay Packers Have Immense Support to Ban the Philadelphia Eagles Tush Push

Earlier this offseason, Green Bay Packers President and CEO Mark Murphy, who is retiring in July, brought a proposal before the NFL’s Competition Committee that would ban the tush push. In his proposal, he cited player safety and pace of play as two reasons why it should be banned.
And while there was little indication that Green Bay would have support from the rest of the league prior to the annual NFL owners’ meetings, it sounds like they have already picked up a great deal of support.
According to Kalyn Kahler of ESPN:
“The Green Bay Packers’ proposal to ban the push sneak, popularly known as the tush push, has support within the competition committee, a source with direct knowledge told ESPN.”
That being said, Kahler also reports that there are some who view the Packers’ proposal as “petty,” perhaps motivated by the fact that the Eagles knocked Green Bay out of the NFL Playoffs this past year.
Regardless of the reason for the proposal, it sounds like there will be some interesting discussions had this week.
