The Philadelphia Eagles still have their eyes on a Super Bowl win, but we’ve got eyes on mock drafts across the NFL. A team can’t get to 14-3 and a #2 seed in the playoffs without a sound roster, but the Eagles have shown a propensity for loading up in the trenches even before it’s a need. Although, the Eagles pass rush have been a bit disappointing this season with no defender getting more than 8 sacks. Could that be where GM Howie Roseman and coach Nick Sirianni use their first pick? Let’s see what the analysts think:
Philadelphia Eagles Mock Draft Picks
Sports illustrated
Pick: 30
Player: Jalon Walker, Edge Rusher, Georgia
Analysis: “Something about the Eagles and Georgia football players, amirite? In all seriousness, the Eagles must get back to their old ways of rushing the passer at an elite rate following consecutive seasons of fall off since former defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon took the head coaching job with the Cardinals.
Walker is a linebacker by trade, but a move to the edge full time could see him become a Micah Parsons-like pass rusher.”
CBS Sports
Pick: 30
Player: Emeka Egbuka, WR, Ohio State
Analysis: “Emeka Egbuka is a big-bodied, fluid mover with natural hands, good contact balance and the ability to run through arm tackles. He gets in and out of breaks with urgency and has yards-after-catch ability. He’s not a finesse player but more of a bruiser. When you talk about “big slots,” this is what you mean. I think he has some Amon-Ra St. Brown in his game.”
Fox Sports
Pick: 28
Player: Mason Taylor, TE, LSU
Analysis: “When healthy, Dallas Goedert has proven himself to be a quality starting tight end in the NFL. However, he’s missed at least one game each season since entering the league in 2018 and turns 30 in January. I expect Taylor to rise throughout the draft process. He’s agile and a natural pass-catcher with impressive NFL bloodlines. His father (Jason Taylor) and uncle (Zach Thomas) were both legends on the field in Miami and are now each in the Hall of Fame.”
Tankathon
Pick: 30
Player: Mike Green, Edge Rusher, Marshall
Analysis: N/A
USA Today
Pick: 30
Player: Jihaad Campbell, LB, Alabama
Analysis: “Yes, this would be a decidedly un-Howie Roseman-like move given how the GM approaches investing in linebackers. But with Zack Baun seemingly a strong candidate to cash in elsewhere after a breakout campaign that earned him a Pro Bowl nod, the Eagles should consider reloading with Campbell, whose versatility should shine through once he learns to play with a touch more discipline.”
Takeaways
It’s always funny to see a linebacker projected to the Eagles in the first round. Ain’t gonna happen. The (small) majority here says the Eagles are taking an edge rusher, and I tend to agree. But I also agree with the sentiment that Philly needs to get a new TE weapon while Goedert is still a stud a la Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert.
