The Philadelphia Eagles are scheduled to visit the White House next week, and it’s now an open question whether Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts will join his teammates.
Hurts, who is being honored as one of Time‘s most influential people, was asked during a red carpet event if he plans to take part in the team’s visit with President Donald Trump. The visit has become a lightning rod for controversy, especially following this administration’s detainment of individuals in an El Salvador prison, efforts to shutter the Department of Education, cuts to the federal workforce and international aid, and tariffs that have sparked a global trade war.
The Eagles quarterback had just one word in response: “Umm.”

The NHL’s Florida Panthers and the NCAA National Champion Ohio State Buckeyes have been among the teams that have recently visited the White House to celebrate their championships with Trump.
It is noteworthy, also, that Trump broke with tradition and also invited the Kansas City Chiefs–whom he was openly cheering for ahead of Super Bowl LIX, to also celebrate at the White House at some point this spring or summer.
Philadelphia has set the standard that the visit will be optional, so it remains to be seen whether Hurts will join his teammates, and how many players will actually attend the event celebrating the Super Bowl LIX win with Trump.
