After a stellar 2022 season ending in a near Super Bowl victory, the Philadelphia Eagles stumbled late last year, eventually falling to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the first round of the postseason. Philadelphia lost six of their final seven games, with the offense becoming nearly nonexistent during that stretch. Quarterback Jalen Hurts threw for six touchdowns against five interceptions during the season’s final month and a half, leading to questions surrounding tension building between him and the coaching staff.
Rumors circulated late last season that Hurts, play-caller Brian Johnson, and head coach Nick Sirianni were at odds regarding the direction of the offense. Those same rumors seeped into the 2024 offseason, much to the displeasure of Hurts. On Wednesday, the signal-caller shut down any speculation of tension between him and Sirianni.
Jalen Hurts: Has Message for Media Regarding Potential Tension With Nick Sirianni
Jalen Hurts would be the first to admit that last season was a down year for the Alabama product. Hurts threw a career-worst 15 interceptions while struggling to replicate his usual efficiency on the ground. Hurts’ struggles led to rumors and reports of fractured relationships between the passer and head coach Nick Sirianni. However, Hurts quickly dispelled any rumors of tension during training camp on Wednesday.

“Yeah, let me say this first. You go through the offseason putting a lot of work in. I think with all the things we have been through last year and all the opportunities we had last year, I know everyone is hungry. There is a ton of opportunity in front of us this year. I’m excited to be back. I’m excited to go through this journey and this season with everyone here. Everyone. I truly trust Mr. Lurie. I trust Howie. I trust Coach Sirianni to lead us in the right direction.”
When pressed about any ongoing tension between Sirianni and himself, Hurts quickly interjected, showing support for the frontman heading into this season. Sirianni is 34-17 in three seasons as the head coach for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Philadelphia Eagles: Hire New OC Kellen Moore
The Philadelphia Eagles will enter the 2024 season with their third offensive coordinator in as many years. After just one season with Brian Johnson calling offensive plays, Philadelphia will lean on Kellen Moore in 2024. Moore served as the offensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys from 2019 to 2022 before spending last season with the Los Angeles Chargers under the same job title.
The Eagles will again return Jalen Hurts to command the offense from the quarterback position next season. On the heels of a near MVP-winning season, Hurts struggled with efficiency last season. However, the Eagles added elite rusher Saquon Barkley this offseason to help with the growth of Hurts. Barkley totaled 2,892 scrimmage yards across the past two seasons.
