Philadelphia Eagles: Placed Star Offensive Weapon on Injured Reserve Ahead of Week 14

The 10-2 Philadelphia Eagles host the 3-9 Carolina Panthers at Lincoln Financial Field for their 13th regular season game of the 2024 season. The Eagles can clinch a playoff spot tomorrow in ten intriguing scenarios as Patrick McAvoy of Sports Illustrated goes through each scenario. One scenario has them clinching a spot if they win, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers lose or tie, the Arizona Cardinals lose, and the Green Bay Packers have already lost.

Eagles star tight end Dallas Goedert suffered an apparent knee injury late against the Baltimore Ravens last week. According to Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer, Goedert avoided a significant knee injury but suffered a sprain. Although he avoided a catastrophic injury, he had a week-to-week injury status and was considered an injured reserve candidate.

According to Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Philadelphia Eagles have placed Dallas Goedert on injured reserve. Goedert will miss at least the next four games and possibly their season-finale against the New York Giants. As Garafolo and Rapoport point out, fans shouldn’t worry about his knee injury since the expectation is for him to be fully healthy for a playoff push, and the injured reserve designation is just a precautionary measure.

Who replaces him in the starting lineup?

Third-year tight end and former sixth-round pick from the 2022 NFL Draft, Grant Calcaterra, will take over as the starting tight end with their star out of the rotation. Calcaterra filled in for Goedert when he missed three weeks with a hamstring injury. He is posting career-highs in receptions, targets, yards, and snaps, with 17 receptions on 20 targets for 216 yards in 498 snaps.

C.J. Uzomah joins Calcaterra in the tight end rotation. Uzomah has bounced around on the Eagles practice squad and has been elevated three times this season. For a fourth elevation, they needed to sign/promote him to the active roster, and they did just that.

Finally, the last tight end on the active roster is second-year player E.J. Jenkins. Similar to Uzomah, Jenkins has been elevated three times this season. They signed him to the active roster since they ran out of game-day elevations.
