The Philadelphia Eagles struck gold in the 2024 NFL Draft, selecting two high-quality cornerbacks in the first and second round: Quinyon Mitchell, their number-one cornerback, 22nd overall, and Cooper DeJean, their slot cornerback, 40th overall. Since the Eagles are going young, they look to move on from their veteran players in the secondary, primarily the cornerback position.
The Eagles made their first significant roster move of the offseason, parting ways with 34-year-old and six-time Pro Bowler Darius Slay after five seasons in Philadelphia. Today, they parted ways with another experienced defender.

The Philadelphia Eagles cut Pro Bowl defender after missing 2024

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Eagles have released James Bradberry, who turns 32 in August, with a post-June 1st cut designation. Since they would lose $5,618,000 and incur a dead cap hit of $10,813,000 with a pre-June 1st cut, the front office decided to designate him as a post-June 1st cut, allowing the $10.813 million in dead cap to spread into the 2026 offseason. As a result, on June 2nd, the team frees up $2.1 million and incurs a dead cap hit of $3.095 million in 2025 and $7.718 million in 2026. Finally, this is their final post-June 1st designation since each team is limited to two designations.

The former Pro Bowl cornerback missed the entire 2024 season

James Bradberry suffered a lower leg injury during training camp, initially believed to carry a six to eight week recovery time. However, Bradberry missed the entire 2024 season as many fans wondered why he did not play. He later told Brooks Kubena of The Athletic that he tore his Achilles and Soleus during training camp, but expects to be ready for the start of OTAs.
Spoke with James Bradberry. He says he tore his Achilles and Soleus. He says his recovery went well and is available for the team. Would be ready by OTAs.
Still wants to see what he can do at cornerback — safety was a decision based on looking at the depth chart last season.
