The Philadelphia Eagles outside linebacker/EDGE rusher position isn’t officially set for the 2025 season because they could still add players in free agency or through the draft. For the time being, Nolan Smith and Jalyx Hunt are the projected starters, while free-agent acquisition Josh Uche is the next man up. Now that their top three EDGE rushers are set for now, this leaves their last offseason acquisition as the odd man out.

The Philadelphia Eagles 2024 offseason acquisition had a rough first season

The Eagles signed Bryce Huff, a situational pass rusher, to a three-year, $51 million contract. Huff had a disappointing 2024 campaign, losing the starting job to Nolan Smith, suffering an injury midway through the year, and upon returning, had a minimal role on defense. He recorded 13 tackles, three TFLs, four QB hits, 2.5 sacks, and one forced fumble in 12 games and six starts. He missed Weeks 12-16 with a torn ligament in his left wrist, and upon returning, had a minimal role on defense, playing one snap in the Wild Card, not playing a single defensive snap in the Divisional, and a healthy scratch in the Super Bowl.
Huff is set to earn a $1.17 million base salary and a $7.511 million cap hit in 2025, a $1.215 million base salary, and a $11.733 million cap hit in 2026. Since he commands a moderately high cap hit and is not expected to contribute substantially next season, he is the odd man out.
Philadelphia Eagles open to trade talks for $51 million miss

According to Jordan Schultz of FOX Sports, the Eagles are open to trade talks involving Bryce Huff. With a pre-June 1st trade, the team would lose $5.389 million and incur a $12.9 million dead cap hit. If they were to trade him after June 1st, they would free up $4.286 million and incur a $3.225 million dead cap hit per Over The Cap

Goedert is in the final year of his deal, while Huff — one of last year’s big free-agent signings — has seen limited playing time due to Philly’s deep rotation. pic.twitter.com/HfxyyWweL3
