Philadelphia Eagles defensive back Cooper DeJean was a second-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft from Iowa. The Eagles used its first two selections in the 2024 NFL Draft on defensive backs. The other defensive back they drafted was Quinyon Mitchell from Toledo in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
Mitchell is projected to be one of the starting cornerbacks on the Eagles roster this season. Darius Slay is projected to be the other starting cornerback on Philadephia’s roster.

As for DeJean, he is not projected to be one of the starting defensive backs on the roster this season. For now, he is listed as one of the backup safeties on the Eagles roster. It will be interesting to see when Cooper DeJean starts at some point for Philadelphia.

On Tuesday, the Eagles activated DeJean from the non-football injury list. The Philadelphia Eagles will face the New England Patriots in a preseason game on Thursday. It remains to be seen if he will play in that game.
DeJean played in 10 games last season for the Iowa Hawkeyes. He had a season-ending injury in November. Cooper DeJean recorded 41 tackles, 2.0 tackles for a loss, two interceptions, and five pass deflections. He also was a punt returner last season for the Hawkeyes.

DeJean also spoke to the media after practice. He was happy to be back with the team by saying:
” Great. Felt great to be back out there a little bit, get moving around with the guys, just to be back out there and do football drills with all them, be back out there with my teammates. It’s good.”
The rookie defensive back was dealing with a hamstring issue over the last three weeks. He also added:
“I was pretty upset. I obviously wasn’t able to start my first NFL camp. But rehab has been good. Trainers have been doing a great job, helping me get back. Don’t want to rush something like this. It’s a long season. But rehab has been going well.”
The good news is that he is back for the Eagles. DeJean could be a safety, but he can also play cornerback for Philadelphia moving forward.
