The Minnesota Golden Gophers have been a viable football program every year since P.J. Fleck took over as head coach before the 2017 season. He has 56-39 overall record with the program and an 86-61 overall record in his coaching career, along with a 6-2 bowl record.

Fleck clinched a share of the BIG10 west division title in 2019, but Minnesota was not in the BIG10 Championship Game. He has a lot to be looking forward to during the 2025 college football season and beyond. During the 2024 season with Minnesota, he had an 8-5 overall record and a 5-4 record in BIG10 conference play. The Golden Gophers will be better than their archrival, the Wisconsin Badgers for the foreseeable future.
Minnesota Golden Gophers Head Coach P.J. Fleck Receives Contract Extension

Nick Kosko of on3.com reported about the Golden Gophers head coach,
“Minnesota head coach PJ Fleck signed a contract extension with the program, keeping him with the Gophers through the 2030 season. It was made official Wednesday.”
This is a huge deal for the Golden Gophers football program. They finished eighth overall in the BIG10 conference during the 2024 season. Minnesota is looking to achieve bigger heights during the 2025 season, but it will be interesting to see what he can do with this team moving forward. Fleck has had a lot of success with Minnesota, and it isn’t a joke what he has done because he was also successful with the Western Michigan Broncos.
During his 2019 season, it was his best year with Minnesota by finishing with an 11-2 record. They defeated the Auburn Tigers 31-24 in the Outback Bowl that season.

I’ve always liked PJ Fleck. Happy for him.

There is no doubt that there are some non Golden Gophers fans who made fun of this football program for extending Fleck. Well, Minnesota doesn’t have the pedigree of the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Michigan Wolverines, or the Penn State Nittany Lions. However, they have a favorable schedule in 2025, and the Golden Gophers toughest games will be against Ohio State and also the Oregon Ducks.
Other than that, could Minnesota finish with a 10-2 record? That would be an interesting story to watch for. However, this is great for Fleck and the program that they were able to give him a contract extension, and he is only 44 years old also.
