Another season, and Patrick Mahomes continues to be one of the brightest players in the National Football League. It is hard to believe that he is entering his ninth season in the NFL, but he continues to shine. Pro Football Focus created a list ranking the top 50 players entering the 2025 season and the Chiefs’ quarterback made the podium, but did not reach the top spot.
PFF Ranks Patrick Mahomes in Second Place

Dalton Wasswerman and Trevor Sikkema recently released their top 50 players in the NFL ahead of the season and listed Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes as the second-best player. Below is the excerpt they posted on their list about the ranking.
“The incomparable Mahomes may not have posted his highest PFF grade last season, but his mastery of situational football remains unmatched. He’s earned 90.0-plus grades in five of seven seasons as a starter and still ranked eighth in the NFL last year at 84.1 despite a shaky supporting cast. Leading the Chiefs to a perfect 12-0 in one-score games, Mahomes once again proved he’s at his best when the stakes are highest.”
The only player ranked ahead of Mahomes was Cleveland Browns edge rusher Myles Garrett. With an improved receiving core on the roster and a revamped offensive line, he should be able to have a better statistical season in 2025. Last season, Mahomes completed 392 of 581 (67.5%) of his passes for 3,928 yards with 26 passing touchdowns to 11 interceptions while adding 58 rushing attempts for 307 yards (5.3 yards per carry) with a pair of rushing touchdowns.
