New York Giants defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence has made a mark in this league ever since being drafted 17th overall from the Clemson Tigers in the 2019 NFL Draft. Lawrence has been one of the best defensive tackles in the NFL ever since that moment.

Giants fans understand how great he is, but New York also had to address the defensive tackle position in the 2025 NFL Draft. New York drafted Darius Alexander from the Toledo Rockets in the third-round to be paired with Lawrence. The Giants defensive line could be one of the best units in the NFL for the 2025 NFL season. Lawrence is also one of the top players in the NFL. Where does he rank amongst defensive tackles by pro football focus?
New York Giants Dexter Lawrence Ranks Second Amongst Defensive Tackles By Pro Football Focus

Pro Football Focus writer Trevor Sikkema ranked his top 32 defensive tackles entering the 2025 NFL season. Despite Lawrence missing some games during the 2024 season for New York, Sikkema ranked the former Clemson defensive tackle number two on his list. The only player that was ranked ahead of Lawrence on this list was Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones.
Sikkema said about Lawrence being ranked as the second-best defensive tackle in the NFL,
“Lawrence logged only 550 snaps in 2024 due to some missed time, but he recorded an 89.0-plus PFF overall grade (89.9) for the third season in a row. His 1.07 PFF WAR over the past three years sits behind only Chris Jones at the position.”
He is only 27 years old, and Lawrence will be near the top of the defensive tackle position for the next several years as long as he can stay healthy. He is currently in the prime of his NFL career. Lawrence during the 2024 NFL season with the Giants played in 12 games. He recorded 44 tackles, nine sacks, one forced fumble, and one pass deflection.
If Lawrence can play all 17 games for New York in 2025, there is no doubt that he can over 10 sacks. The core of the Giants defense in 2025 will be him, rookie Abdul Carter, Brian Burns, and Kayvon Thibodeaux. Lawrence is probably the best player on New York’s defensive line here, but they had much improvement over the offseason. When the 2025 season concludes, there will be a massive debate if Lawrence is a better defensive tackle than Jones of the Chiefs or not.
