Pete Carroll talks about progress on defense
The Seattle Seahawks have added a few pieces to their defense after a lackluster 2022 showing. The Seahawks gave up the 25th most yards per game (361.7) in the regular season and gave the most in the postseason (505.1). They also averaged giving up the 25th most points in the regular season (23.6). That’s far from where defensive-minded head coach Pete Carroll wants them to be.

According to Seahawks’ website, Carroll was asked about the team’s offseason progress on defense at the League Annual Meeting. Carroll said they’re on track but not where he wants the team to be:
“So it hardly came as a surprise that Carroll, when asked how close his defense is to being where he wants it to be, he responded, “I don’t know that. I don’t know that.”
Without hesitating, however, Carroll then added, “We’re on the right track though. I know we’re on the right track. I’m really excited about the experience that we just went through and how we’re going to grow from that and take the best out of it and continue to grow and build, make it our defense. So I’m looking forward to that whole process. And I like the moves that we’ve made.”\
Fortunately for Carroll, the team still has a chance to add pieces in free agency and the draft. The Seahawks own four picks in the first two rounds, including the fifth-overall selection. They can use their draft capital to help Geno Smith progress next season and help the defense regain its full power.
