Penn State Wide Receivers room took a big hit when Jahan Dotson’s time was up in Happy Valley. After the historic Penn State Wide Reciever was selected in the first round by the Washington Commanders, somebody is bound to step up. There are plenty of guys to select from and perhaps some incoming freshmen that could work their way into the rotation. We broke it down to the three projected starters and what to expect from them. Last time we discussed the Running Backs. Let’s talk about the Wide Outs.
Senior, Mitchell Tinsley
What isn’t there to like about Mitchell Tinsley? The Super Senior has an impressive 6’1″ 206-pound frame to go along with a hardnose background. From Hutchinson Community College then Western Kentucky, he always played with a chip and his numbers did the talking. Last season, Tinsley racked up 1,402 yards and 14 touchdowns, both top ten in the country.
Tinsley will be a nice and older weapon for Quarterback, Sean Clifford. The leadership of Tinsley will be on display with a young Wide Receiver room looking to compete with the best rooms in the country. Expect Tinsley to be the number one target, but a lot of damage is done by the committee.
Sophomore, Parker Washington
In just two seasons for the Nittany Lions, Parker Washington has been exceptional as the second Wide Receiver to Dotson. Washington racked up 64 receptions and 820 yards last season which is very solid for the WR2 in an offense that could not get a passing game going downfield. Alongside the experienced Tinsley, Washington is ready to make another leap and potentially lead this wide receivers room to huge success.
In terms of success with Clifford, it is always good to see a guy you know. If Clifford and Tinsley don’t seem to be on the same page, Washington is there to help. At worst, Washington will be this group’s WR2 but his chemistry with Clifford could provide huge numbers.
Sophomore: KeAndre Lambert-Smith
KeAndre Lambert-Smith is another nice familiar target to have. His crafty play in the open field is dangerous alongside Washington’s and the fit with Clifford is nice. Lambert-Smith had some drop issues last season, but no reason to think that continues with a fully healthy offseason and an excellent bowl performance.
This is the guy to do the honors of third in the Penn State Wide Receivers rankings. Lambert-Smith can help stretch the field and help this offense elevate to the next level.
